Spent a rainy Saturday clicking through a 1997 township clerk's site and now I get why these pages matter
I was stuck inside in Worcester on a rainy Saturday with nothing to do, so I started poking at random small town sites. I hit the page for a township clerk's office that hasn't been redesigned since around 1997, and it's all mismatched fonts, a hit counter, and one blurry GIF of a flag. The whole page is a dozen links to meeting minutes PDFs from 2009 and a phone number listed as call between 9 and 11 on weekdays. I almost closed it, but then I read the minutes from a zoning meeting about a fence dispute and honestly it was better than any show I've watched lately. It got me thinking about how these ugly little pages hold real stuff that big pretty websites never bother to keep. The clerk even wrote a note at the bottom saying the site is best viewed in Netscape, which made me laugh out loud. Anyone got a favorite municipal or county page that looks stuck in the 90s but is secretly full of useful stuff?
