That county assessor's website with property lines from 1982 is actually useful
Everyone raves about Zillow for checking property boundaries but I spent an afternoon on my county's official GIS site in Kansas. The thing hasn't been updated since 1982 and the interface looks like a 90s Geocities page but it showed me a fence line dispute that none of the big sites had. Has anyone else found a hidden gem in a government site that looks terrible but works better than the modern versions?

Man, you are SO right about that. I found the same thing with my county's floodplain maps - the online tool looks like someone coded it on Windows 95 and it's all pixelated and janky. But it showed me the actual ELEVATION data from a 1978 survey that proved my neighbor's drainage ditch was diverting water onto my property. All those pretty apps like Zillow just show tax parcel outlines, not the real easements and stuff. You gotta dig into the actual county auditor pages and look for the "historical imagery" or "cadastral" links, that's where the REAL info lives.
