The 2003 IRS tax form archive that turned into a rabbit hole, boring or beautiful?

Tbh I spent last Tuesday night on irs.gov's prior year forms page just looking at the 2003 Form 1040 layout. The old two-page design with those tiny print instructions feels way more honest than the e-file version now. But then I went down a 45 minute path comparing the 1985 version and honestly got lost in the font changes. So is the boring government site actually a hidden gem for design nerds, or am I just making excuses to avoid my actual taxes? Anyone else find themselves weirdly hooked on these outdated templates instead of the flashy new ones?
