Wrote off the county auction site for 2 years, then spent 40 minutes reading soil reports and now I get it
For like 2 years I thought the Warren County surplus auction page was the most boring site on the planet, just gray tables and PDF links and a banner that looks like it was made in 2004. Last Tuesday I was up at 6am with a sick dog and nothing to do, so I actually clicked through the whole thing instead of closing the tab. Turns out there's a section buried under "Misc. Reports" where they post soil sample results for every parcel they sell, and I sat there for 40 minutes reading nitrate levels for land I will never in my life buy. The site has no search bar, the font is Times New Roman, and the last update note says "posted 03/2021" on a page that clearly got new files added. I even found a scanned handwritten note from a county clerk about a drainage ditch dispute from 1998, just sitting there as a PDF nobody has opened. I used to think a site had to be pretty or useful to be worth sharing, and now I think the ugly ones are hiding the good stuff because nobody bothers to look. Has anyone else dug through a county or state site like this and hit a weird little rabbit hole? Drop the link if so.
