Air layering looked like wizard nonsense until my magnolia branch rooted in 9 weeks

I always figured those moss wraps were just fancy plant voodoo, but after watching my neighbor's magnolia cutting take off using 3 grocery bags and some sphagnum, I tried it on my own branch and now I'm eyeing every droopy limb in my backyard, has anyone else had a method they mocked that actually worked better than the textbook way?
