My epiphany at the Denver Botanic Gardens greenhouse
I was at the Denver Botanic Gardens last Saturday and stood in front of this massive corpse flower that had just finished blooming. The stench was unreal - like rotting meat mixed with gym socks - but it got me thinking about how we overlook the weird beauty in plants that don't look pretty. Has anyone else had a moment where an 'ugly' plant totally grabbed your attention?

Actually, the corpse flower only blooms every 7 to 10 years, so if it had just finished blooming last Saturday, you got pretty lucky. Most folks never see one in full bloom at all. Still, you're right about the smell being unforgettable. I saw one at a conservatory in Ohio years ago and the stink hung around for days.
