My mini monstera had root rot for 6 weeks and I couldn't see it

I picked up a mini monstera from a flea market in Portland and watered it like my other plants, but the leaves kept drooping no matter what. After 6 weeks of adjusting light and humidity, I finally pulled it out of the pot and the roots were basically mush, the nursery pot had zero drainage holes. I repotted it in a terracotta pot with a chunky mix and it bounced back in about 10 days, which made me feel both dumb and relieved. Now I check the bottom of every pot before I even bring it home, has anyone else been fooled by a cute pot that's secretly a death trap?
