Rare orchid bloomed after 6 years, then my dog ate it in 10 seconds

I waited 6 years for my Phalaenopsis to finally flower, took photos for maybe 5 minutes, and my labrador grabbed the whole spike off the counter in Tacoma. Was it worth the wait for that brief glory, or should I just stick to plants that don't demand a decade of patience?
