Showerthought: That local plant wisdom is fading fast...
I recall tagging along with my neighbor, Mr. Jenkins, on his daily walks... he knew every native shrub and flower without a second guess. These days, I spot younger gardeners glued to their phones, tapping for instant answers. Those digital guides often skip over tiny details, like which bugs help pollination or when to prune for best growth. Last spring, I saw a kid yank up a healthy seedling because an app labeled it a nuisance... Mr. Jenkins would have sighed and explained its role in the ecosystem. We're letting go of stories that tied plants to places and people. If we don't ask the old-timers soon, that know-how might just vanish... trust me, a chat over the fence beats any online search for getting it right.

Hear about the seedling getting yanked? That's messed up... apps don't replace real knowledge.

But what if the app gave really bad advice? I mean some of those plant IDs are just wrong, and then people act on it. It’s less about replacing knowledge and more about spreading bad info fast.

I mean, apps are just tools and they get better all the time. A quick ID can spark someone's interest who might never have talked to an old timer anyway. Maybe it's a starting point, not the whole story.
