Warning: that 'rare' variegated monstera cutting I bought online was a total scam
I saw this ad for a 'highly variegated' monstera albo cutting on a plant trade group last fall. The seller had great pictures and swore it was stable. I paid $175 for a single leaf node... which is crazy, but you know how the hype is. It arrived looking okay, but the new growth came in completely green. After six months of perfect care, it's just a normal monstera. The seller ghosted me when I asked about it. I feel like an idiot for falling for it. That's a lot of money for a lesson in trusting random internet people. Has anyone actually had good luck with buying expensive cuttings online, or is it mostly a gamble?

People get way too hung up on genetics, sometimes a green plant is just less stressful.

Remember buying a "blue" cactus online that turned out to be spray painted. The color washed off in the first rain. Lost thirty bucks but felt way dumber than that. Sometimes you just have to laugh at how shady people can get over plants.
