Went to the botanical garden downtown and the cactus room was a total mess

I finally hit up the city botanic garden last Saturday after hearing good things. Walked into the cactus and succulent room and half the plants had dead leaves just sitting there on the soil. A few of the agaves were so wilted they were leaning sideways out of their pots. I get that keeping a desert room right is tough, but for $15 admission I expected someone to at least trim the dead stuff. Has anyone else had bad luck with their local garden's plant care?

You got ripped off for $15? My buddy went to one in Portland last spring and said the cactus room smelled like rotten eggs because half the soil was waterlogged and moldy. He complained at the front desk and they gave him a weird look like he was the problem.

Rotten eggs and moldy soil in a cactus room? That's almost impressive in how wrong they got it, like they were actively trying to kill the plants.
