20 years of bricklaying and I just realized I've been buttering my bricks wrong

The part about "20 years" really hit me. It's funny how you can do something for that long and still miss the obvious. I feel like that happens a lot in life, not just with jobs or trades. We get so used to our routine that we stop questioning the little steps, even when they might be making things harder. It makes you wonder what else we're all doing wrong without even realizing it.

That 20 year mark @grace565 really gets me thinking. I knew a plumber who had been doing pipe repairs for decades and always used a specific wrench for tight spaces. Turned out there was a whole different tool designed for that exact problem, and he just never asked anyone or looked into it because his way "worked fine." Makes you wonder how many of those little daily habits we never question are actually the long way around. What's one thing you've personally caught yourself doing on autopilot for way too long before realizing there was a simpler way?
