Just got burned on a 'professional' mortar mixer that couldn't handle a basic load
Bought a new electric mixer online for about $350, thinking it would save time on a big patio job. The thing started smoking halfway through the second bag of sand, and the motor gave out completely. Had to rent one same-day for another $80, putting me way behind. Anyone know a solid brand that actually holds up?

Sounds like a rough day but maybe the machine just had a bad unit. Those online deals can be hit or miss on quality control. Did you check the warranty before you went and rented another one?

Was the warranty even worth the hassle, or are they just gonna give you the runaround?

That's a huge bummer, and it puts you in a tough spot. Did you check the motor's power rating before you bought it? Sometimes the cheaper ones just don't have the guts for real work, even if they're sold as pro tools. It's frustrating when the specs on the site don't match what the machine can actually do.
