Pro tip: I was laying brick with my trowel at a weird angle for years

I was working on a chimney rebuild in Cincinnati last month, and my apprentice asked why I held my trowel tilted so far forward. I told him that's just how I learned. He filmed me for a second, and watching the video back, I saw I was fighting the tool, not letting the brick's weight do the work. I straightened my wrist out, and suddenly my buttering was way smoother and faster. Has anyone else had a simple grip change make that big a difference?

Honestly, that's just how muscle memory works though.

Can't believe you went years without seeing that.
