PSA: I used to mix my own mortar for every job in Spokane, but not anymore.
After a bad batch last fall that cost me a full day to tear out and re-lay about 150 bricks, I switched to using pre-mix from a local supplier. The consistency is just way more reliable, especially with our weird temperature swings. Anyone else made the jump to bagged mix and had good results?

My uncle runs a masonry crew in Coeur d'Alene. He told me they switched their whole operation to Quikrete type S for all residential jobs about five years back. Said the callbacks for cracked mortar went down to almost zero.

But @the_william, that stuff's way too hard for old brick.

Callbacks for cracked mortar went down to almost zero" is the dream. My callbacks just switched from fixing my own bad mix to arguing with the homeowner about the color being slightly off from the bag. Progress, I guess.
