That old mason at the supply yard told me to wet my bricks before laying them on a hot day

He said it stops the mortar from drying too fast and cracking. Has anyone else actually tried this or was he just messing with me?

That old timer wasn't messing with you at all, it's legit. Helps the mortar hold its moisture and bond better when it's blazing out. Just don't soak them, a quick spray is plenty or they'll float around on you.

Huh, I actually gotta respectfully disagree. I've laid a ton of brick on hot days and never wet them, always comes out fine if you work fast and keep the mortar from sitting in the sun.
