Used a string line on a 30 foot garden wall in Cedar Rapids instead of eyeballing it and the difference was night and day
I've laid plenty of walls by sight over the years and always figured a line slows me down. Last week I had a 30 foot wall running along a fence in Cedar Rapids and the homeowner wanted it dead straight, so I strung a mason's line and checked every course against it. Course 4 was sitting about 3/8 inch proud by the time I got there, and I caught it before it turned into a problem. Three courses later the line had saved me a tear-out I would have eaten. What do you all do when a line won't reach the whole run, just set a second one off the corner or trust the level and hope?
