Vent: I quit cutting my brick wet on the saw and switched to a dry cut with a vacuum shroud, and my joints came out cleaner
Honestly everybody on my crew swears wet cutting is the only way, but last week on a job in Dayton I tried a dry cut with a vacuum shroud on my 14 inch saw because the homeowner did not want slurry all over his new driveway. The dust was way less than I expected and the faces were chip free, which I did not believe until I laid 60 bricks and checked every one. Ngl I still wear a good N95 and run the vac, but my cuts stayed sharp and I did not have to keep dunking brick in a bucket of mud. Has anybody else moved to dry cutting for face work, or am I setting myself up for a dust problem later on?
Well look at you, joining the dry cut club and acting like you discovered fire or something. The vac shroud and N95 combo is the real trick here since dry cutting without dust control is how you end up breathing concrete for the rest of your life. Keep doing exactly what you're doing and your lungs will thank you in 20 years.
