My grandma's 1975 grocery receipts showed something wild about prices
I was sorting through some old family stuff and found a little notebook of my grandma's where she wrote down every grocery purchase from that year. She lived in Dayton, Ohio, and the totals for a week of feeding a family of four were like $23 to $30. I looked up what that means now after inflation, and it's roughly $170 to $220, which honestly isn't that far off from what I spend at Aldi for two people. What got me though is that her list had fresh meat, produce, and brand name cereal every single week, no coupons, no sale hunting. I feel like I'm doing advanced math just to afford eggs these days. Anyone else ever compare old family receipts to their current budget and just feel totally defeated?
