I'd been re-caulking that same tub every 6 months for 3 years until he laughed and handed me a $3 tube of plain silicone, and now it's been 14 months with no peeling, so what's the cheap thing you were late to trust?

A $3 tube of plain silicone beating the $9 stuff is the same story as people buying fancy face wash when a bar of soap works fine. We get sold on "better" like the price tag proves something, and then a guy who actually fixes tubs for a living tells you the truth in ten seconds. Most of the time the basic version was there the whole time, we just didn't trust it without a label telling us it was special.
