Just learned that one pound of dried beans equals like 3 cans and my mind is blown

I was looking up chili recipes to stretch my grocery budget and found out on some random extension site that a 1lb bag of dry beans ($1.50 at my local Aldi) gives you the same amount as 3 cans of pre-cooked beans which cost around $5 total. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has done the math on how much you actually save by cooking dry beans vs canned?

Depends on how much you value your time though... soaking beans overnight and then boiling them for an hour isn't exactly effort free. Plus canned beans are already seasoned and ready to go when you're hungry. Honestly the savings aren't that huge unless you're cooking big batches all the time. A dollar or two per pound isn't life changing money for most people.

So you're saying a dollar or two per pound isn't worth the extra work, @faith_perez? But what about when you're feeding a family of four off that savings, week after week. Those dollars add up quick if you cook beans a couple times a week.
