Just realized I was overspending on ground beef for years

I was buying the expensive pre-packaged stuff at Publix until my neighbor told me the butcher counter sells it for $2 less per pound if you just ask for it ground fresh - has anyone else found a similar trick at their local grocery store?

Publix butcher counter is the move. I get their chuck ground fresh, saves me $3 a pound easy.

Why would you pay more for meat they grind right in front of you when the prepackaged stuff is literally the same cow? Those butcher counter guys aren't magic, they're just dicing up the same chuck roll that gets bagged and sent to the meat section anyway. I've bought both and cooked them side by side, tasted exactly the same. You're basically paying extra for the show of watching a dude in a hairnet push a button on a grinder. If you really want to save money, grab the family pack of ground chuck on sale for $3.99 a pound and freeze half. That's the real hack, not standing in line for ten minutes.
