My aunt told me I was wasting money on name brand beans

She watched me dump a $3 can of Goya black beans into my chili and just shook her head. Said I could get the store brand for 89 cents at Aldi in St. Louis and they taste exactly the same after you rinse them. I switched 6 months ago and honestly can't tell the difference, saves me like $8 a week on just beans alone. Anyone else have a family member call them out on overpaying for basic stuff?

lol the "after you rinse them" part is key, my grandma said the same thing to me about canned tomatoes. She was like "you're paying for the name, not the taste" and honestly she was right. I switched to store brand everything a year ago and the only thing I noticed was my wallet getting heavier haha. The savings add up way faster than you think, especially if you cook a lot of beans and rice like I do. She was dead on about the rinsing too, that liquid in the can is basically just salted water anyway.

Rinsing canned beans cut my salt intake way down and I actually felt better after meals.
