My aunt told me to always buy the cheapest rice, but I think she's wrong
She said the store brand at my local market was fine for everything. I bought a 5 pound bag for $3 last month. It cooked up mushy and had a weird, almost dusty taste in my stir fry. I switched to a slightly better brand that cost $5 for the same size, and the texture is totally different, way better for fried rice. Has anyone else found that spending a little more on a basic item like rice is actually worth it?

Ever see someone ruin a whole pot of gumbo? My buddy used that super cheap rice once. Grains turned to total paste, like a thick glue in the broth. He was so mad he gave the rest of the bag to his neighbor.
