My neighbor lectured me for 20 minutes about my grocery cart last Saturday

I was at Aldi in Wichita just trying to grab eggs and milk for under $10. This older lady I barely know sees me pick up a bag of frozen broccoli and starts going off about how fresh is always cheaper. She stood there in the produce aisle counting out how much I'd waste on frozen over a month. I wanted to say I buy frozen because I can use half and save the rest before it rots, but she wasn't listening. Has anyone else had someone assume you're doing budget meals wrong just because you buy frozen instead of fresh?

I really relate to the part where you said 'she wasn't listening' because that's exactly what happened to me. I had a neighbor corner me in the parking lot about buying canned tomatoes instead of fresh ones in winter. I finally just said 'thanks for the tip' and walked away mid-sentence because nothing I said was gonna change her mind. Some people have strong opinions about food and they don't want to hear that frozen veggies are often cheaper than fresh when you factor in waste (I hate throwing out slimy produce). What finally worked for me was just nodding and moving on, saving my energy for people who actually listen. Honestly, you're doing fine buying frozen broccoli, that stuff saves my meals all the time.
