Question about buying cheap bulk rice vs the good stuff
I grabbed a 20 pound bag of store brand rice for 8 bucks last month and it came out sticky and bland, while my coworker swears by paying $15 for jasmine rice that she says lasts way longer in taste and texture, so is the extra money actually worth it or are we both just fooling ourselves?

Read this thing the other day about how cheap rice is usually older and drier so it clumps up and tastes like nothing, while fresher jasmine has natural oils that keep each grain separate and actually taste like something. So if you think about it you're paying for the rice to not be a sad lumpy mess. I've noticed that when I buy the cheap stuff I have to drown it in soy sauce just to make it edible, which kinda defeats the whole point of saving money. The good jasmine rice from my local asian market is only like 11 bucks for 10 pounds and it's night and day difference. Your coworker is right, it's not just in your head, the texture and flavor actually hold up way better especially when you reheat it the next day.
