Booked a 'budget' flight to Chicago that ended up costing me an extra $60 because I didn't check the carry-on size limits.
My backpack was two inches too tall and they hit me with a $60 gate check fee which basically destroyed any savings from picking the cheap ticket, has anyone else been burned by those sneaky bag sizers at the gate?

Two inches and they charged you $60? That's insane, almost feels like a trap.

Yeah but $60 for a two inch cut isn't really a trap, more like a straight up robbery with a smile. They probably charge that much cause they know people won't argue over a small fix. Still wild how they can get away with it though.
