Found an old guidebook from 2002 and the price for a hostel bed in Prague was $8

I was cleaning out a closet and found this old 'Europe on a Shoestring' book my dad gave me. It fell open to the Prague section, and the price for a dorm bed at a hostel was listed as $8 a night. I checked online for the same place today, and it's $35. I knew things got more expensive, but seeing the numbers side by side like that was a shock. Makes you wonder what the new 'cheap' spots are that haven't been found yet.

That's just brutal inflation for you... The new cheap spots get found and ruined almost instantly now. It's a sad cycle.

Used to think it was just hype chasing, but man, seeing my regular diner double their burger price after some food blog shoutout? That's real. It's not just trendy spots, it's everywhere now.

Tell me about it. I found this amazing little taco truck last month, told TWO friends, and now the line wraps around the block. I basically priced MYSELF out of my own lunch spot.
