Got stuck at a bus station in Guatemala for 8 hours because of a "cheap" ticket
Last year I booked a budget bus from Guatemala City to Antigua for like $3 online. Turned out the company had a policy where they overbook and you just have to wait for the next one if you show up late. I showed up 10 minutes early but they gave my seat to someone else. Ended up sitting on the curb for 8 hours eating fried plantains from a vendor. Anyone else have a similar nightmare with Central American bus companies?

Got ripped off by a chicken bus driver in Nicaragua who charged me double because I looked "like a gringo" and then the bus broke down an hour later. Spent 3 hours on the side of a mountain watching a guy fix the engine with what looked like a paperclip and some hope. At least the fried plantains were good though, right?
