I compared sleeping in a hostel vs a capsule hotel in Tokyo and the capsule was WAY better for half the price

Stayed at a 8-bed dorm in Shinjuku for 3 nights at like $40 a night and got NO sleep. People coming in drunk at 2am, snoring, lights on. Then tried a capsule place near Asakusa for $22 a night. Dark, quiet, own little space with a TV and controls. Felt like a spaceship. Total game changer if you're solo and just need a bed. Anyone else ditch hostels for capsules in Asia?

Yeah man, the capsule setup totally saved my trip too.

Have you tried one of those capsule places that's more like a pod in a shared room instead of a private cubicle? I did a dorm capsule in Kyoto once where each bed was its own little pod with curtains but still open to the room, and it was way quieter than a regular hostel but not as isolated as the full capsules you're describing. The price difference surprised me too, usually capsules are dirt cheap compared to even the cheapest dorms around popular tourist spots. Just watch out for the ones that don't have lockers big enough for a proper bag, that's where a hostel might still beat them if you're carrying a lot of gear.
