Lost my passport in Barcelona, the backup plan cost me $60 extra
I was in Barcelona last month, 2 days into a 2 week trip, and somehow my passport slipped out of my bag on the metro. Panic mode, obviously. I had no copies, no photos, nothing. The consulate was a 45 minute walk away and they wanted proof of identity plus a police report, which took another 2 hours at the station. Total time lost was about 6 hours and the emergency replacement fee was $145. But the real kicker, my flight home was booked under my old passport number, and changing it with the airline online took 20 minutes and charged me $60. I should have just paid the $15 to scan my documents into a cloud folder before leaving. Does anyone actually do that, or are we all just gambling until this happens?
