My buddy swore by hostels in Prague, but I tried one and it was a total mess
He told me to just book the cheapest hostel in Prague's Old Town to save cash. I paid 15 euros a night for a 12-bed dorm, and it was so loud and dirty I got zero sleep for three days. I ended up moving to a quieter, slightly pricier place just outside the center and finally got some rest. Has anyone else found that the absolute cheapest option sometimes costs you more in the end?

Yeah that's the classic backpacker trap right there. Been there myself, trying to save a few bucks and ending up a zombie. The lack of sleep makes you spend more on coffee and dumb mistakes anyway, so the "cheap" bed ends up costing a fortune in sanity. Sometimes paying an extra ten euros is just a tax on being a functional human the next day.

Tax on being a functional human" is such a perfect way to put it. I see this everywhere, like buying the cheap tool that breaks and costs more to replace. That false economy just eats up your time and money. It's better to pay a bit more upfront to avoid the hidden costs later.

Reminds me of the time I bought a cheap sleeping bag in Thailand, woke up shivering at 3am.
