Showerthought: I saved over $200 on a flight to Lisbon by booking a ticket to a different city
I was looking at flights from Chicago to Lisbon and they were all over $800. On a whim, I checked a flight to Madrid, which was only $450, and then a separate budget airline ticket from Madrid to Lisbon for $35. The total was way less, and I got to spend a day in Madrid for free. Has anyone else found a cheaper nearby airport that worked out?

Oh man, that's such a good trick! I did something similar flying into London instead of Edinburgh once... saved a ton and got an extra city visit. Always worth checking those nearby hubs.

Totally, @olivias88! I flew into Milan and took a train to Florence last year, worked like a charm.
