That $3 hostel breakfast in Prague cost me way more in the end

I booked a 13 euro a night hostel in Prague thinking I was being smart. Their breakfast was 3 euros extra so I tacked it on. Turned out it was just stale bread, watery jam, and instant coffee that gave me a headache. I ended up spending 8 euros at a bakery down the street just to actually eat. Lesson learned: never add the hostel breakfast, just walk a few blocks and find a real cafe. Has anyone else fallen for that cheap add-on trap?

Nah, I actually kinda disagree with "the mystery meat 'sausage' that was basically just bread and regret." That 3 euro hostel breakfast in Prague saved me more than once. I had a 6am train to Vienna and the hostel breakfast was the only thing open. Sure it was stale bread and watery jam, but I wasn't there for a meal, I was there to shove calories in my face before running to the station. And that instant coffee headache? I just drank water first and it was fine. I'd rather pay 3 euros for garbage I can choke down in 5 minutes than wander around a foreign city at dawn trying to find a bakery that might not even be open yet.

Did your friend also get the mystery meat "sausage" that was basically just bread and regret? Mine tried the hostel breakfast in Berlin and spent the whole afternoon running back to the bathroom.
