That night in Naples when the hostel bed bugged out

Last October I booked a 12 euro bunk in Naples and woke up with welts on my arms, so I grabbed my pack at 2 AM and walked to the train station to sleep on a bench. The station guard let me stay near the lockers for free, and I washed my clothes in a public sink with bar soap the next morning. Has anyone else ditched a prepaid hostel and found a safer spot on the fly, or do you always push through the room issues?
