TIL you can sleep in a Tokyo capsule hotel for $18 a night, and now I can't decide if that's a steal or a trap
I was poking around a hostel booking page last Tuesday and saw a capsule spot in Shinjuku listed at 2,800 yen, which came out to about $18 with the exchange rate that day. That is a third of what I paid for a room in Osaka, and it got me going back and forth on whether the cheap price is worth giving up a real door and a place to leave my bag. One side says you are barely in the room anyway, so bank the savings and spend it on food and trains instead. The other side says no door, shared bathrooms, and a locker the size of a shoebox will wreck you by day three and you will end up paying for a hotel anyway. Has anyone actually done a full trip on capsules, or did you bail after one night?
