Tried both hostel dorms and budget hotels across Portugal last month...

I always thought dorms would be a nightmare but after 3 nights in a Lisbon dorm for 11 euros a night versus a 45 euro private room in Porto, the social aspect alone made the dorm way better. Met a guy who showed me a free walking trail along the coast I never would have found otherwise. Anyone else find dorms beat hotels for actually learning the local spots?

Isn't it wild how the BEST stuff always comes from random interactions instead of paying for it?
