Unpopular opinion: calling the hotel front desk at 2pm got me a room for $61 in Nashville
I had a wedding in Nashville last month and I waited way too long to book anything, so every site was showing $180 and up for a basic room near the airport. On a whim I pulled up the number for a place off Briley Parkway and asked the guy at the desk what he could do for a walk in that night. He said hold on, came back and quoted me $61 plus tax because they had rooms sitting empty and the booking sites take a cut anyway. I asked if that was a real number and he laughed and said most folks never call, they just book online and pay double. I've done this three times now, once in Chattanooga and twice in Nashville, and it works best on weekday arrivals when the lot looks half empty. It's not a magic bullet, I got turned down in Franklin when there was a youth tournament in town, but the hit rate has been solid for me. Your mileage may vary depending on the city and the season. Anyone else had luck going straight to the front desk instead of the apps, or is this just a fluke where I live?
