Why does nobody talk about how much money you waste on cheap airport food?

I spent $28 on a bad sandwich and a drink in Denver before a flight last month, and it hit me that I could have packed a real meal for under $5. What's your go-to move for not getting ripped off at the terminal?

My buddy swears by the app Too Good To Go for airport deals. He got a whole bag of pastries from a Denver spot for like five bucks right before closing.

That's a solid tip, I gotta check that out. Does it work in most airports or just some?

Wait, has anyone actually tried the Too Good To Go app inside the terminal? My friend Jenna tried it at LaGuardia last spring and it was a total mess. She showed up at the bakery counter right before her flight and the lady said the bag was already claimed, but it clearly wasn't. @daniel_martinez84 I think the app's hit or miss depending on how well the airport staff knows about it. She ended up spending like $18 on a sad pretzel and a bottle of water anyway because she was starving. Now she just brings a ziploc of trail mix and a peanut butter sandwich in her carry-on, no matter what. It's annoying but it saves her like $30 every trip.
