Appreciation post: my grocery budget finally broke $300 this month
After 2 years of tracking every single receipt, I cut my grocery spending to $295 for a family of four last month. The big change was switching to a weekly meal plan based on what's on sale at the farmers market near my house. Has anyone else had luck with a similar approach?

The trick nobody talks about is the "price per unit" game... most people just grab the cheapest looking package but the smaller bags of rice and beans are almost always more expensive per pound. We started buying the bulk bags from the restaurant supply store down the street and it cut our costs by nearly 30 bucks a month alone. Also, learning to cook with cheaper cuts of meat like chuck roast or chicken thighs instead of breasts made a bigger difference than I expected.

I mean, the price per unit thing is smart, but I kinda disagree on the bulk bags. We tried that with rice from a restaurant store and it sat in our pantry for months before we even made a dent in it, and then we found out we could have just bought the same rice on sale at the regular grocery for nearly the same price without the huge commitment. Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather spend a little more per unit than have a giant bag of something we might not finish before it goes bad.
