Bought a $30 meal prep container set and it melted in the microwave on day 2

I figured i'd save cash by cooking all my lunches on sunday like everyone says to. Got this 5 pack of plastic containers from a random deal site, thought I was being smart. First time I reheated chili at work, the lid warped and leaked all over the break room microwave. Now I gotta spend real money on glass ones, total fail. Anyone else get burned by cheap meal prep gear?

The barbaragarcia nailed it with that "paying twice" line. I learned the hard way too (my cheap plastic containers warped into weird shapes after like two uses). You really gotta think about the long game with meal prep gear. Glass is heavier and more expensive upfront but it never stains from tomato sauce or gets that weird smell after a few washes. I've had my glass set for three years now and they still look brand new, so the cost per use is basically nothing at this point. The only downside is they're louder in the lunch bag and if you drop one on tile floor you might cry. But honestly that's a small price to pay for not having chili dripping down the office microwave door.

The real trick is finding glass containers on sale, otherwise you're paying double what you thought you were saving. Got a set from ikea for a reasonable price and they've survived multiple drops and microwaves without issues. Eventually you learn that cheap plastic is just paying twice for the same lesson.
