Caught a snippet of a podcast about 'latte factor' and it clicked for me

I was listening to a podcast on my drive to work in Austin last week, and the host mentioned how skipping a $5 coffee twice a week adds up to $520 a year. I do that every single day, so I did the math and that's $1,820 a year just on coffee. I decided to start bringing my own from home this week and already saved $15. Has anyone else had a similar wake-up call with small daily spending?

Oh boy, that's the truth right there... I used to get so annoyed when my $5 coffee turned into $5.50 or more after tax. What finally worked for me was just bringing my own thermos and making coffee at home before I leave. I still treat myself to a coffee shop drink about once a week, but I save so much money the rest of the time. Plus I can control exactly how much sugar and cream goes in it. Feels good to not be surprised at the register anymore, you know?
