Drove past my old grocery store from 2010 and the parking lot is half the size now

I was visiting my hometown last weekend and swung by the grocery store I used to budget shop at, and they ripped out half the parking lot to put in a bike lane and a community garden, which got me wondering how much our spending habits have actually changed since then because I definitely remember stuffing $60 worth of stuff into my cart back then for a full week's meals.

You're really reading into this like it's some kind of sign of the apocalypse. A smaller parking lot probably just means the store realized they had way too much asphalt sitting around doing nothing. Half empty lots are a waste of space and money to maintain. It's not that deep.

Wait, is a smaller parking lot really that deep? Most grocery stores have way more parking than they need anyway. Sounds like they just trimmed the fat on something that was probably half empty most days.

Trimming the fat" is true but you're missing the point... smaller lots mean less room for people parking and waiting for curbside pickup orders, and that's where the real chaos happens now.
