Just realized my grocery budgeting trick saved me $50 a month for 6 months straight

I was getting so frustrated seeing my grocery bill creep up every single week. I live in Phoenix and was spending around $600 a month just on food for myself and my husband. Then I tried something simple: I started making a list based on the weekly ads from two stores near my house, not just one. I spend 15 minutes on Sunday morning comparing the ads from Fry's and Safeway online. Then I buy the sale items from each store and plan my meals around those. Has anyone else found that sticking to a strict list from the ads really cuts down the impulse buys, or do you have a different system that works better?

Honestly @grayt46, planning around ads really helped me stop grabbing extras at checkout too.

Read a study that said planning meals cuts grocery spending by 20%. Smart move!
