Just saw my electric bill drop $45 after swapping out one old appliance

I dug into my energy usage breakdown online and found my 20-year-old fridge was pulling 800 kWh a year on its own. Replaced it with a basic Energy Star model from a scratch-and-dent place in Nashville for $350. Has anyone else had one appliance secretly eating their budget like that?

Totally feel you on this. My old water heater was the same way. I didn't even think about it until I saw my bill was $60 higher than my neighbors. Turned out that thing was running basically all day. Got a newer one and my bill dropped fast. It's wild how much one old appliance can drain your wallet without you noticing. Glad you caught it before winter really hit.

Honestly, that right there is the kind of hidden cost nobody warns you about when you buy a house. Ngl, I had the exact same shock with an old chest freezer in my garage that was chugging juice like it was running a marathon. Once I swapped it out for a newer model, my bill dropped by about $35 a month. It's one of those things where you don't realize how much it's costing until you actually see the numbers in black and white. Glad you caught yours before the weather turned too.
