My $50 drain snake snapped inside the pipe last night and now I'm looking at a $300 plumber bill instead of the $15 fix I thought I was getting.

I was trying to save money on a slow kitchen sink in my apartment in Chicago, and now I've made it way worse because the cable got stuck halfway down and broke off, has anyone else had a cheap repair totally backfire like that?

Wait, are you sure you actually need a plumber for that? A lot of times you can fish the broken snake out yourself with a magnet or a shop vac. I learned that the hard way after I snapped two cheap snakes in the same pipe. The store-bought snakes are really just for hair clogs, not full blockages. You probably hit a hard turn or a grease plug that was too tough. Next time try a plastic drain stick or just boiling water first. Saves you the headache and the $300 lesson.
