My brother laughed at my $300 food budget until I showed him the receipts
My brother Jake kept saying I was being too strict with groceries. He does takeout every night and spends like $600 a month. I stuck to my meal plan and cooked every day for 3 months straight. My credit card bill showed I only spent $285 a month on average, so who's laughing now? Anyone else have family doubt your budgeting numbers until you prove it?

And it's wild how this whole thing ties into something bigger I've noticed. People have this weird idea that cooking from scratch is some kind of punishment instead of just... how food works. My mom used to do the same thing, said I was "depriving myself" because I wouldn't buy those pre-seasoned taco kits or bagged salad mixes. But I did the math once, compared a homemade taco night to a boxed kit with all the extras, and it was like half the price for twice the food. It's like nobody stops to think about where their money actually goes, they just see a number and react.

Is it just laziness or do people think their time is worth that much?
