My car breaking down on 95 actually saved me $1,200
I was driving from Richmond to DC last March when my 2008 Honda started sputtering near Fredericksburg. Instead of calling a tow truck straight to a dealership, I had my buddy Mike come pick me up and we limped it to his garage. Turns out it was just a clogged fuel filter that cost $28 to fix, not the $1,200 transmission rebuild the dealer quoted me last year. Anyone else had a breakdown that turned into a win?

Wait, didn't you say the dealer quoted you that last year?

Yeah that's fair to call out because I was totally against the idea last year. Thought the dealer was just trying to upsell me on something I didn't need. But then my buddy got the same package and his car actually held its value way better when he traded it in. Plus he didn't have to pay for a single repair out of pocket. Made me realize I was being stubborn about it. What finally changed your mind on it?

Oh man, I actually read an article about this exact thing a few months back. It was talking about how those extended warranty packages are way more worth it on newer cars with all the electronics and sensors. Apparently those sensors cost a fortune to replace, like hundreds for a simple thing. So I can totally see why you changed your mind, especially if your buddy's car held value better. It's easy to be skeptical at first but the numbers do add up sometimes.
