My emergency fund saved me when my fridge died at 3am.

I woke up to a puddle in the kitchen at 3am last Tuesday, water all over the floor from a busted fridge line. I had $1,200 set aside for stuff like this, so I didn't even blink at the $900 repair bill. Anyone else had a sudden appliance failure test their budget?

You saved up for a whole year just to cover a fridge repair?

Oh wow, I get where you're coming from but it's more complicated than that... Look, a fridge is a big deal when you don't have much wiggle room in your budget. I've had years where a $300 repair would've wiped out my whole savings. Sometimes people are just one bad break away from losing everything, y'know? That year of saving might've meant skipping takeout, driving an old car, not taking vacations... it adds up but it's doable. A new fridge is way more expensive than a repair, so it's actually smart to save up for keeping what you've got running.
