My friend's 'no spend month' idea made me think about budgeting differently

I was talking to a buddy from Phoenix who just finished a month where he only spent money on rent, bills, and groceries. He said he saved over $400 from cutting out takeout, streaming, and random trips to the store. On one side, that's a huge win and a fast way to reset your spending. On the other, it sounds really hard and maybe not something you can keep up forever. I'm torn between trying a strict challenge like that or just making smaller cuts I can stick with, like packing lunch more. What do you think is better for a long-term budget win, a big short-term push or steady small changes?

Honestly, that "reset your spending" part is key. Tbh the real win is using that no spend month to see what you actually miss, then only adding those things back.

You're right, baker.phoenix. I did a no-spend month and was shocked by how many subscriptions I forgot I even had. The real test was seeing which coffee shop I actually missed versus which one was just a habit. What did you find you missed most when you tried it?
